I know this post is a few months old now, but I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm really getting tired of having my manliness questioned by product advertisers who feel that my self-worth should be equivalent to how much beef I can cram in my gullet.

I'm sick of being pandered to like a child.

As much as I find women attractive, I still get sick of sex-based advertising being shoved down my throat on a daily basis. It's numbing.

We can do better than this.

Rob, those modern men aren't gathered in one place. That's part of the problem. Brett at ArtofManliness.com has done a good job of gathering real men together, but as far as I can tell, he's the only one with a decent following.

That said, there are hundreds of daddy bloggers. Guys who write primarily about family, career concerns, and humor that rises above an Adam Sandler movie. How do we gather these guys together? That's the question, isn't it?

@amber - thanks for the comment!

@tyler - I didn't know about your photography business. Congratulations, man. I'm glad to see you're working for your daughters' sake.

Great point Cory! Its something I too have been thinking about for a while. And yes, it did seem like this year's superbowl ads were particularly egregious.

Ive done some research and there are very few outlets for the progressive/modern/non-alpha male (we dont even have a good word for it!) on the web.

And think about men's magazines. All we are have are Maxim, FHM, and GQ (let alone porn). One thing to keep in mind if you want to find advertisers who will market to the modern man, is where are those men? Without progressive male websites/magazines/cable channels, etc, advertisers have no way to reach us.

I say we form our own. I have two daughters and I don't want them to grow up and expect anything less than a real man as a husband...they are too amazing to learn about and settle for a pandering neanderthal. (This is Tyler from BuildingCamelot)

It's good for men *and* women that men are not portrayed as pandering neanderthals. Because, for every pandering neanderthal, there is a nagging bimbo. Not good!
