Last week Jim Durbin from JobsinSocialMedia.com encouraged (dared?) me to create what I thought my dream job would be. I posted it on his site today and here’s a recap.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic planning, with senior management involved, of marketing & social media plan. This includes external communities, the company blog, and/or a company sponsored community site where customers can gather to converse. This also includes internal community that facilitates better usage of employee resources, corporate knowledge, and collaboration.
- Broadcast media & advertising should drive connection through company community channels.
- Develop corporate partner & advocacy programs where clients are encouraged to advocate on behalf of the organization and are rewarded with a close relationship with the company.
- Facilitate cross departmental integration of social media and customer relations. Customer service, sales, marketing, research & development, IT, and management should all have a seat at the marketing table.
- Develop company newsletter – clients segmented by industry, time with company, current & former status, other relevant factors. Internal newsletter that informs employees of what’s going on in the company.
- Measure, report, and refine ongoing campaigns. Measurement would be based on financial return on new sales and retention as well as press/blog mentions, partner & advocacy programs.
Skills that would be required:
- Excellent verbal & written communication.
- Strong background in sales & marketing. Proven experience in driving ROI, Profit & loss.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a community. A recognized presence in social media.
- Strong negotiation skills, ability to negotiate corporate politics.
My ideal company would:
- Be in the creative and/or tech industries.
- Have a strong business plan.
- Be a recognized market leader or a new company that is recognized as an “up and comer.”
- Make retaining top talent a priority with strong compensation & benefits, as well as encouraging creativity and entrepreneurial thought. Have a focus on results and not on “putting in the time.”
- Be in the Portland, OR area or be willing to let me telecommute some/all of the time.
I imagine that this is not that different from other people’s dream social media jobs. I have experienced bits and pieces of this for some time, but I’ve yet to find a company where the whole package is there.
What would you add?
